New blood test could reduce unnecessary transfusions in liver shunt patients

Summary

This study looks at whether a special blood test called thrombelastography can help doctors decide when to give blood products to people with liver cirrhosis who are getting a TIPS shunt. The goal is to see if this test reduces the amount of blood products used and prevents bleeding complications. About 39 adults with liver cirrhosis who need a TIPS shunt will take part.
