Scientists develop risk score to forecast bronchiectasis attacks

NCT ID NCT07599839

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 25, 2026

Summary

This study is creating a new scoring system called BASE to measure how severe bronchiectasis is and predict the chance of a flare-up over the next year. Researchers will follow 750 adults with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis for 12 months, collecting routine medical data. No new treatments are being tested; the goal is to give doctors a better way to identify high-risk patients.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple, objective tool for doctors to better predict which patients are at risk of worsening and tailor monitoring or treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The tool may not prove accurate enough in practice, and results may not apply to all patient groups.
