WhatsApp AI could spot breast cancer risk

NCT ID NCT07070128

First seen Dec 18, 2025

Summary

This study tests an artificial intelligence tool that collects family cancer history via WhatsApp to predict genetic risk of breast cancer. Researchers will compare the AI's recommendations for genetic counseling with those of breast surgeons and actual genetic test results. The study involves 800 women already identified as high-risk and aims to see if the AI can reliably guide who needs genetic testing.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this AI tool could help identify women at high genetic risk for breast cancer more easily, potentially leading to earlier genetic counseling and testing.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The AI tool may not be accurate enough to replace standard genetic testing, and results may not apply to all populations.
