New hope for CLL patients with weak hearts: acalabrutinib under the microscope
NCT ID NCT06651970
First seen Nov 01, 2025
Summary
This study tests the drug acalabrutinib in people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who also have moderate to severe heart failure. Researchers want to see if acalabrutinib causes fewer heart-related side effects compared to other standard treatments. About 60 adults will take part, and the study will track heart safety and how long patients can stay on the drug.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
acalabrutinib (Calquence)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that acalabrutinib is a safer option for CLL patients with heart problems, reducing the risk of heart-related side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Heart risks remain, and the drug may still cause serious side effects.
Conditions
