Scientists hunt for 'Tranq' in overdose patients

NCT ID NCT06949605

Summary

This study aimed to understand the health effects of xylazine, a veterinary drug increasingly found mixed with street opioids like fentanyl. Researchers measured xylazine levels in leftover blood and urine samples from 75 adults treated in New York City emergency rooms for a non-fatal opioid overdose. They also tested how well simple urine test strips could detect the drug, which could help with harm reduction efforts.
