WOOP there it is: mental strategy boosts weight loss in vets

NCT ID NCT05014984

First seen Jan 11, 2026

Summary

This study tested a mental strategy called WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan) to help veterans with obesity lose weight. Over 400 veterans were split into two groups: one got the VA's standard weight program (MOVE!) plus WOOP, the other got MOVE! alone. The goal was to see if adding WOOP led to more weight loss over 12 months.

What this could lead to

What could go wrong

This is a completed trial, but the approach is behavioral and results may vary. It may not work for everyone, and long-term weight loss is hard to maintain.
