Sewage science: could hospital pipes reveal superbug secrets?
NCT ID NCT07499505
Summary
This study aims to see if testing hospital wastewater can reliably show which antibiotic-resistant bacteria are present among patients, offering a simpler alternative to individual patient swabs. Researchers will compare bacteria and resistance genes found in wastewater from a specific hospital building with samples from 150 adult patients hospitalized there. The goal is to develop a cheaper, less invasive monitoring tool to help track and control the spread of dangerous, hard-to-treat infections.
