Stroke study tests if exercise locks in walking skills

NCT ID NCT03726047

First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how people who had a stroke more than 6 months ago learn a new way of walking using distorted visual feedback. Researchers want to see if a short bout of exercise right after learning helps them remember the new walking pattern a day later. About 80 participants will be randomly assigned to either just learn the walking pattern or do 5 minutes of exercise after learning. The goal is to understand how exercise affects memory for motor skills after a stroke.
