No tourniquet, less pain: new numbing combo tested for hand surgery
NCT ID NCT04494100
First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tested whether a numbing method called WALANT (which uses only local anesthetic and no tourniquet) could make carpal tunnel release surgery more comfortable. Sixty adults having endoscopic carpal tunnel release were randomly assigned to receive either the standard nerve block with a tourniquet or the WALANT technique combined with a long-acting nerve block. The main goal was to measure pain during surgery using a 0–10 scale.
