New drug VS-01 tested for severe liver failure – study halted early

NCT ID NCT05900050

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested a drug called VS-01 in 15 adults with acute-on-chronic liver failure (sudden worsening of long-term liver disease) and fluid in the belly. The goal was to see if VS-01, given into the abdomen, improves liver function and survival when added to standard care. The study was stopped early, so results are limited.
