First seen May 21, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a virtual reality (VR) program could help preschool children with autism improve their social skills as well as an in-person group class. Thirty-two children aged 4 to 6 with high-functioning autism took part in 8 weekly sessions of either VR or in-person activities. Researchers measured changes in social awareness, communication, and problem behaviors using parent and teacher reports.
