Virtual reality could help teens recover after suicide crisis
NCT ID NCT07186543
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a virtual reality (VR) program called PrESR for teens ages 13-18 who are hospitalized for suicidal thoughts or behaviors. The VR program lets them practice coping skills in simulated school and social situations with a therapist's guidance. The study will check if the program is feasible and acceptable to teens, especially those from minority backgrounds. It is a small pilot trial with 26 participants and is not designed to prove the program works yet.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance

- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a new way for teens to practice coping skills in realistic school and social settings while still in the hospital.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 26 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It is designed to test feasibility, not effectiveness, so it may not show clear benefits.
