Virtual reality shows promise for fibromyalgia pain relief
NCT ID NCT07528599
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether combining virtual reality with motor imagery exercises can reduce pain and improve quality of life in people with fibromyalgia. Twenty-eight adults with fibromyalgia will be randomly assigned to either conventional exercise alone or conventional exercise plus virtual reality-based motor imagery. The researchers will measure pain, sleep, fatigue, mood, and overall well-being over six weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- virtual reality-based motor imagery
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new, non-drug way to ease pain and improve daily life for people with fibromyalgia.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early-stage study with only 28 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and the benefit over standard exercise alone is uncertain.
