VR meditation may crush cigarette cravings, new study hopes

NCT ID NCT05766553

First seen Jan 14, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether practicing mindfulness meditation in a virtual reality environment can reduce cigarette cravings and help people quit smoking for good. About 200 smokers who use 10-40 cigarettes daily will be split into two groups: one will do six weekly VR mindfulness sessions, while the other will use standard nicotine patches and gum. Researchers will check if participants have relapsed at 3 and 6 months to see if VR meditation works better than current treatments.
