First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a virtual reality (VR) experience can help people in early recovery from alcohol use disorder reduce drinking and stay sober longer. About 500 participants who have been abstinent for at least 14 days but less than a year will be randomly assigned to a VR intervention or a control group. Researchers will track alcohol use, abstinence periods, and changes in how participants think about their future selves and rewards over 6 months.
