New hope for cirrhosis patients: drug may prevent painful Post-Procedure ulcers

NCT ID NCT07267260

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether vonoprazan, a medicine that reduces stomach acid, can prevent ulcers that sometimes form after a procedure to treat enlarged veins in the esophagus (band ligation) in people with liver cirrhosis. About 154 adults will take either vonoprazan or a placebo daily for two weeks after the procedure. Researchers will then check for ulcers and ask about pain or swallowing problems to see if the drug helps recovery.
