Summary

This study tests whether taking vitamin D supplements can reduce nerve pain, improve sleep, and boost quality of life in people with type 2 diabetes who have nerve damage. Researchers will give vitamin D to 150 adults with low vitamin D levels and track their pain and sleep over 12 weeks. If successful, it could offer a simple, low-cost way to manage a common and painful diabetes complication.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Vitamin D supplement
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to reduce nerve pain and improve sleep and daily life for people with diabetic neuropathy.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with only 150 participants, and earlier studies have shown mixed results. Vitamin D may not provide significant relief, and benefits may vary from person to person.
