Brain zaps could restore sight: small study explores artificial vision

NCT ID NCT02747589

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests a brain implant, already approved for epilepsy, in 5 blind volunteers to see if stimulating the visual cortex can create visual sensations. The goal is to learn where to place the device and how much stimulation is needed to produce artificial vision. This early research will help design a future visual prosthesis for blind people.
