Can video games help Parkinson's patients walk better?
NCT ID NCT07359716
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether virtual reality exercises can improve balance and mobility in people with Parkinson's disease as well as or better than standard physical therapy. Sixty-two participants were split into two groups: one did virtual reality therapy and the other did conventional exercises. Researchers measured walking speed, balance, and fear of falling to see which approach worked best.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Virtual reality-based physical therapy
- What this could lead to
- If virtual reality therapy works well, it could offer a new, engaging option to help people with Parkinson's improve their balance and movement.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study with only 62 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Virtual reality might not be better than standard therapy and could cause dizziness or discomfort in some users.
