Simple vibration and cold ease pain of chest tube removal in heart patients

NCT ID NCT06217263

First seen Mar 25, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tested whether vibration therapy, alone or with cold, could reduce pain and anxiety when chest tubes are removed after heart bypass surgery. 93 adults were randomly assigned to vibration, vibration plus cold, or standard care. Results showed both vibration methods lowered pain and anxiety, with the combination working best. This offers a safe, drug-free option for nurses to help patients during a stressful procedure.
