First human trial tests new pill for rare brain disease that steals words

Summary
This early-stage study aims to test the safety and side effects of an oral medication called verdiperstat in people with semantic variant primary progressive aphasia (svPPA), a rare form of dementia that primarily affects language. About 64 participants will take either the study drug or a placebo pill twice daily for 24 weeks. Researchers will monitor for side effects and also check if the drug reaches the brain and has any early effects on thinking, memory, and brain scans.
