First human trial tests experimental pill for rare brain disease that steals words

Summary
This early-stage study is testing the safety and side effects of an oral medication called verdiperstat in people with semantic variant primary progressive aphasia (svPPA), a rare form of dementia that causes progressive loss of language and word meaning. About 64 participants will take either the study drug or a placebo pill twice daily for 24 weeks. Researchers will monitor for side effects and check how the drug behaves in the body, while also looking for early signs of whether it might help slow brain changes or thinking skills.
