Doctors test if ventilator 'Sighs' can reveal hidden lung problems

NCT ID NCT07172061

Summary

This study tested whether adding programmed 'sigh' breaths during standard ventilator support could help doctors better assess lung condition at the bedside. Researchers measured 110 critically ill adults on ventilators to see if data from these sigh breaths could indicate how well the lungs might respond to pressure adjustments. The goal was to find a simple way to guide ventilator settings that might protect fragile lungs.
