Two-Drug combo tested to better control rare autoimmune diseases
NCT ID NCT00647166
Summary
This study tested whether adding a drug called azathioprine to standard corticosteroid treatment works better than corticosteroids alone for adults newly diagnosed with certain rare autoimmune diseases that cause blood vessel inflammation. The goal was to see if the two-drug combination could help more patients achieve and maintain remission over two years while keeping side effects manageable. The trial involved 114 patients and compared the two treatment approaches in a blinded, randomized fashion.
