Why quitting smoking might not end cancer risk?

NCT ID NCT07134426

Summary

This study aims to understand why former smokers remain at higher risk for lung cancer even after quitting. Researchers will compare how the lungs of 100 former smokers and non-smokers break down a specific chemical (phenanthrene) through urine tests. The goal is to see if former smokers process this chemical in more harmful ways, which could explain their ongoing cancer risk and help develop future prevention strategies.
