Gut check: can an antibiotic reveal MS secrets?

NCT ID NCT05539729

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looks at how the antibiotic vancomycin changes gut bacteria and immune cells in people newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Researchers want to understand the link between gut health and brain inflammation in MS. Twelve participants will take vancomycin for a short time, and scientists will measure changes in bacteria, blood immune cells, and brain scans. The goal is to learn more about how gut microbes affect MS, not to test a new treatment.
