Scientists zap vagus nerve to find the perfect frequency for heart and lung health
NCT ID NCT07274332
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests how stimulating the vagus nerve at different frequencies affects heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing in 36 healthy adults. Participants will receive five different stimulation frequencies (including a sham) in random order. The goal is to find which frequency produces the strongest effects on the autonomic nervous system.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- transcutaneous cervical vagus nerve stimulation (tcVNS) via Pulsetto FIT™ device
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could help identify the best stimulation frequency for future treatments targeting the autonomic nervous system.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study in healthy volunteers, so results may not apply to people with medical conditions. The effects are short-term and may not lead to lasting benefits.
