Shocking recovery: nerve zap may cut tube time after surgery

Summary

This study tests whether a vagal nerve stimulator can shorten the time patients need a nasogastric (NG) tube after abdominal surgery. About 60 adults who develop a common complication called postoperative ileus will be enrolled. The goal is to reduce discomfort and speed up recovery by using mild nerve stimulation.
