Pee power: urine test could spot kidney cancer without needles

NCT ID NCT04053855

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study is testing a new, non-invasive urine test to detect clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a common type of kidney cancer. Currently, diagnosis often requires expensive imaging or a painful biopsy. Researchers are looking for tiny particles called exosomes in urine that are released by cancer cells. If successful, this liquid biopsy could allow for earlier and easier diagnosis. The study will include 100 people with kidney masses scheduled for surgery, plus a control group.
