Scientists probe why sinusitis steals your sense of smell

NCT ID NCT06776042

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at why people with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps often lose their sense of smell. Researchers will compare cells from the nose of patients and healthy volunteers to understand how inflammation affects smell. 140 adults will take smell tests and provide nasal brush samples before and after 3 months of treatment. The goal is to learn how the condition damages smell and whether treatment can help repair it.
