Umbilical cord injection shows promise for stubborn leprosy ulcers
NCT ID NCT05777213
First seen Apr 12, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This early-stage trial tested whether an injection made from human umbilical cord cells (called secretome) could help heal trophic ulcers in people with leprosy. These ulcers often do not heal with standard treatments. The study included 27 adults with chronic ulcers and measured wound size changes over 4 weeks, with follow-up at 12 weeks. The main goals were to check safety and see if the treatment might work, paving the way for larger studies.
