Quick ultrasound check could prevent deadly breathing tube mistakes

Summary
This study tests a simple ultrasound method to confirm that a breathing tube is placed correctly in the windpipe, not the food pipe, during surgery. About 200 adults having scheduled or emergency surgery will participate. The goal is to see if this quick, easy-to-learn ultrasound technique works as well as the standard carbon dioxide detector (capnography) to prevent serious complications.
