This study looked at whether measuring muscle thickness in the thigh and breathing muscles with ultrasound before heart or lung surgery can help predict problems after surgery. Researchers enrolled 301 patients aged 65 and older. They found that less muscle mass may be linked to a higher risk of complications like kidney failure, breathing trouble, or infection.
