What the study statuses mean

This study's is highlighted.

Recruitment status, easiest to join first

Recruiting now This study
This trial is taking on new participants right now.
Not yet recruiting
Registered, but not yet taking participants.
By invitation only
Not open to general applications. Only people the study team invites can take part.
Paused
Paused for now. It may or may not start again.
Ongoing
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
Completed
The trial has finished. Results may not be published yet.
Stopped early
Stopped early, before it reached the end. That can be for many reasons, including safety.
Cancelled
Cancelled before anyone took part.

Expanded access (not trials)

Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.
Approved
The treatment has been approved, so it is available normally rather than through this programme.

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple ultrasound scan can accurately detect damage to the radial nerve in people with a broken upper arm bone. Some of these patients also have wrist or hand weakness. Researchers will compare ultrasound results with what surgeons find during the operation. If it works, this safe, non-invasive test could help doctors plan treatment faster and better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
High-resolution diagnostic ultrasound
What this could lead to
If successful, ultrasound could become a standard, non-invasive tool to quickly diagnose nerve injuries in arm fractures, helping surgeons plan better.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Ultrasound accuracy depends on operator skill and may miss some nerve issues.

Who can take part

Who is studied

Adult patients presenting with acute traumatic humeral shaft fractures at a tertiary care orthopedic center. Patients are assigned to cohorts based on the presence or absence of clinical radial nerve palsy. All participants undergo standard diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, with targeted ultrasound used for nerve assessment in the radial palsy group.

Inclusion Criteria: * Adult patients aged 18 years or older. * Diagnosed with traumatic humeral shaft fracture. * Admitted and followed according to the local clinical protocol with a confirmed diagnosis. * Underwent required investigations, including high-resolution ultrasonography and/or electromyography (EMG). * Provided written informed consent to participate in the study. Exclusion Criteria: * Pathological fractures due to malignancy or metabolic disorder. * History of previous humeral fracture or pre-traumatic radial nerve deficit. * Clinically detected vascular injury or major soft tissue loss accompanying the fracture. * Incomplete diagnostic workup (absence of ultrasound or EMG examination). * Declined participation or were lost to follow-up. * Persons under 18 years of age.
