Sound waves could spot nerve injuries in broken arms before surgery
NCT ID NCT07286734
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether a simple ultrasound scan can accurately detect damage to the radial nerve in people with a broken upper arm bone. Some of these patients also have wrist or hand weakness. Researchers will compare ultrasound results with what surgeons find during the operation. If it works, this safe, non-invasive test could help doctors plan treatment faster and better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
High-resolution diagnostic ultrasound
What this could lead to
If successful, ultrasound could become a standard, non-invasive tool to quickly diagnose nerve injuries in arm fractures, helping surgeons plan better.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Ultrasound accuracy depends on operator skill and may miss some nerve issues.
