Sound waves wake the brain: ultrasound tested for coma recovery

Summary
This study is testing whether gentle, focused ultrasound waves directed at a deep brain area called the thalamus can help patients recover consciousness after severe traumatic brain injury. Researchers will compare the ultrasound treatment to a sham (fake) procedure in 60 patients who have been in a disorder of consciousness for more than 28 days. The main goals are to see if the treatment is safe, if it improves consciousness and function, and to understand how it might work in the brain.
