Twins help unlock secrets of metabolic syndrome and liver disease

NCT ID NCT07181018

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study follows 1,500 twins aged 15 to 44 over five years to learn how metabolic syndrome and related liver problems develop. Researchers will track new cases of fatty liver disease, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, and look at how genes, environment, and gut bacteria affect these conditions. The goal is to better understand why some people get sick while others don't, which could lead to better prevention and treatment in the future.
