What the study statuses mean

This study's is highlighted.

Recruitment status, easiest to join first

Recruiting now
This trial is taking on new participants right now.
Not yet recruiting This study
Registered, but not yet taking participants.
By invitation only
Not open to general applications. Only people the study team invites can take part.
Paused
Paused for now. It may or may not start again.
Ongoing
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
Completed
The trial has finished. Results may not be published yet.
Stopped early
Stopped early, before it reached the end. That can be for many reasons, including safety.
Cancelled
Cancelled before anyone took part.

Expanded access (not trials)

Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.
Approved
The treatment has been approved, so it is available normally rather than through this programme.

Summary

This study is a large, observational registry in Türkiye that will track the real-world practice and outcomes of a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion (CTO) — a complete blockage of a coronary artery that has been present for at least three months. Researchers will collect detailed data on patient characteristics, procedural techniques, and in-hospital complications from thousands of adults undergoing this procedure at multiple centers. The goal is to understand what factors are associated with successful and safe CTO revascularization, which could help improve future treatment approaches.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this registry could reveal which techniques and patient factors lead to safer, more effective procedures for opening chronically blocked heart arteries, potentially improving future treatment guidelines.
What could go wrong
As an observational study, it cannot prove cause and effect. The results may be influenced by differences in how participating centers perform procedures, and the large size does not guarantee that findings will change practice.

Who can take part

This study's own entry requirements. Only the study team can say for certain whether you qualify.

Who is studied

The study population will consist of consecutive adult patients undergoing attempted PCI for coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO) at participating centers in Türkiye. Both successful and unsuccessful procedures will be included. Repeat CTO PCI attempts and procedures involving different CTO lesions in the same patient will be eligible. Each procedural episode will be recorded separately and linked to the same patient using a unique study identifier, allowing patient-level and procedure-level analyses.

Inclusion Criteria: * Age ≥18 years * Presence of at least one coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO), defined as a coronary artery lesion with TIMI grade 0 antegrade flow and an estimated duration of occlusion of ≥3 months * Undergoing an attempted PCI of the CTO at a participating center during the study period * Provision of informed consent when required by the applicable ethics committee and local regulations Exclusion Criteria: * Age \<18 years * Coronary lesion not meeting the predefined criteria for CTO * No attempted CTO PCI during the procedure * Inability or refusal to provide informed consent when informed consent is required * Withdrawal of consent from participation in the registry
