First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 26, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looks at whether the diabetes drug metformin, combined with lifestyle and risk factor changes, can reduce episodes of atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat) in people with pacemakers or defibrillators. About 175 participants will be randomly assigned to receive metformin or placebo, and also to receive lifestyle coaching or standard care. The goal is to see if these approaches can lower the amount of time spent in atrial fibrillation over one year.
