Brain zaps may help slow language loss in dementia

NCT ID NCT04046991

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested whether a gentle brain stimulation technique called tDCS, combined with language therapy, can improve language abilities in people with primary progressive aphasia (PPA), a condition that slowly destroys speech and understanding. 76 adults with two types of PPA received either real or fake stimulation over 10 sessions. Researchers measured language changes right after treatment and again 3 months later, and also used brain scans to understand how the language network responds.
