Talking to themselves: a new training to boost brain flexibility in kids with language disorder

NCT ID NCT06880731

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study explores whether teaching children with developmental language disorder (DLD) to use self-directed speech (verbal mediation) can improve their executive function, specifically cognitive flexibility (shifting between tasks). 75 children aged 8-10 will complete shifting tasks before, during, and after an intervention where some hear a model using self-talk while others see a silent model. The goal is to understand if this language-based training helps them process cues and switch tasks more effectively.
