Underwater colonoscopy could spot hidden polyps and cut cancer risk

NCT ID NCT06333392

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study compares a new technique called total underwater colonoscopy (using water instead of gas to open the colon) with the standard method in over 1,000 people who had a positive stool test. The goal is to see if the water method finds more flat, hard-to-see polyps that can lead to colorectal cancer, especially in women. If successful, it could improve screening and reduce discomfort.
