Eye injection could stop blinding scar tissue after retinal surgery
NCT ID NCT06425419
First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This early-stage study tests whether an injection of the drug topotecan into the eye can safely prevent or reduce scarring (proliferative vitreoretinopathy) after surgery for a detached retina. About 50 adults with severe retinal detachment will either receive the injection during and after surgery or standard care alone. The goal is to see if the drug lowers the chance of the retina detaching again.
