New spray device may replace IV sedation for stomach scope procedures
NCT ID NCT07563062
First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tested a new device that sprays numbing medicine in the throat and esophagus, comparing it to standard IV sedation for upper GI endoscopy (a scope procedure to examine the stomach). Sixty adults undergoing elective endoscopy were split into two groups: one received the topical spray, the other received IV propofol and ketamine. The goal was to see if the spray could provide similar comfort with fewer side effects and faster recovery.
