New study tests if guided conversations improve heart valve surgery choices
NCT ID NCT05711186
First seen May 11, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a structured conversation between doctors and patients helps people with severe aortic stenosis make a better choice between two heart valve treatments: TAVR (a less invasive procedure) or SAVR (open-heart surgery). About 140 patients aged 70 and older will be randomly assigned to either the structured conversation or usual care. The goal is to see if this approach reduces confusion and regret about the treatment decision.
