No-Neck-Scar thyroid surgery tested in major trial

Summary
This study compares a newer surgery called TOETVA, which removes the thyroid through the mouth leaving no visible scar, to the standard neck incision surgery. About 616 adults needing thyroid removal will be randomly assigned to one of the two procedures. The main goal is to see if TOETVA is as safe as the standard approach in the first 24 hours after surgery, while also improving quality of life by avoiding a neck scar.
