Choice over prescription: cancer patients quit smoking better when they pick their own treatment

NCT ID NCT04634071

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tested whether letting cancer patients choose their own smoking cessation plan helps them quit more effectively. 126 patients with tobacco-related cancers were allowed to pick from a combination of counseling, medication, and nicotine patches. The goal was to see if giving patients control over their treatment leads to higher quit rates compared to being assigned a random plan.
