New study aims to help homeless smokers kick the habit for good

NCT ID NCT03249428

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study compares two ways to help people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness quit smoking: nicotine mouth spray or a medication called Cytisine, both with counseling. About 200 participants in Ottawa and Toronto will be followed for six months to see which approach improves quality of life and reduces smoking. The goal is to create a low-cost, community-based program that can be used for other health issues like obesity and diabetes.
