Brain zaps and speech drills: new hope for Alzheimer's communication woes?

NCT ID NCT04482179

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tested a combination of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) — a non-invasive brain stimulation technique — and a specific language therapy in 23 people with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease. The goal was to see if this approach could improve their ability to speak and find words. Participants received either real TMS or a sham (fake) version along with the language therapy, and their communication skills were measured before and after treatment.
