First seen May 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) could improve cognitive flexibility in people recently detoxified from alcohol. Fourteen adults with alcohol use disorder received either real or sham stimulation to the left prefrontal cortex. The main goal was to see if the treatment helped with tasks measuring thinking flexibility, attention, and memory, not to directly reduce drinking.
